Here’s Big Jeff – Bristol’s best Big Issue seller

Big Jeff is not a big man but his personality is huge. If you’ve ever walked around Bristol along Stokes Croft or The Triangle you cannot miss the man. He talks to everyone and flirts with all the women and this is what makes him Bristol’s most successful Big Issue seller.

I’ve photographed Big Jeff (aka Jeff Knight) a couple of times lately – the first time for the My Pitch page and the second time for an article called ‘Live For The Day’ in the 5-11 October edition of The Big Issue.

As Jeff gets up early the brief was to capture some pictures of him as he hits the streets at 7am. As is often the case when I’m commissioned to do a street portrait in Bristol, I was asked to get some of the city’s legendary graffiti in the background of some shots.

Jeff was in top form even at that early hour and I think I got some good portraits of him. The main portrait at the top of this page is the one used in the magazine.
