Back in 1986 my dad worked in Brazil for a couple of weeks. On a day off he did some sightseeing and while taking some pictures from a viewpoint over Rio he and about ten colleagues were mugged at gunpoint. He lost his camera and all the pictures he’d taken that day.
He didn’t want to go home without any photos of his visit so he bought some slides. Those slides have sat in a drawer for nearly 30 years until this Christmas when he produced them and asked if I could make a copy of them so he could take a look.
I no longer own a scanner but with a lightbox and a macro lens I’ve managed to make some rough copies, which somehow add to the charm of the images. The slides were shot on Agfa film and from the look of the cars on the Copacabana, I’d say these were shot in the mid 1960s.
